Diary Index - People

The index below has hyperlinks to the relevant months within the diaries for the different areas of interest. Harrison’s handwriting, and the fact that some words are written phonetically, means that spellings can be variable. Dates written in italics refer to historic transcriptions for which we do not have the original source - these are available on request.

Elders

The term ‘elders’ here is used with caution. Both 'elders' and 'leaders' are slightly off as the Mbuti are egalitarian in nature and make group decisions. Leaders contravenes this (as would 'chiefs') and elders might not work as the Mbuti do not track or record their age but it does normally means someone who is a source of knowledge and is wise and dignified.
